Benthic Screening
| This technique involves the installation of sheets of benthic screening on top of plants and/or sediment along the bottom of the pond. The benthic screen limits light to the bottom of the pond, thus helping to preclude the growth of aquatic vegetation. The major drawback to this method is the removal and cleaning of the benthic screen during the fall and re-installing the benthic screen during the early spring. If this is not accomplished, sediment accumulates on top of the screen and the plant growth becomes re-established on top of the benthic screening. Since it is rather cumbersome to install and remove the benthic screening annually, the use of this technique can be expensive. |
